The Aggies are in the need of a new head coach.
That was fast. Within three-ish days Utah State’s Matt Wells was connected to the Texas Tech job and now he is reportedly going to Lubbock as the Red Raiders new head coach, per Football Scoop.
It is no shock that Wells was gaining interest from other schools, even Power Five schools, but the speed of this hire was blazing fast.
The Salt Lake Tribune is reporting that Wells is bringing along offensive coordinator David Yost and defensive coordinator Keith Patterson. This is a huge blow that the top three staffers are leaving Logan and heading to Texas Tech.
Wells had one of the most drastic turnarounds in all of FBS by going from three wins to 10 wins in just three seasons. The offense was also one of the best in the country by averaging 47.2 points per game and were obliterating opponents. He also took the Aggies to five bowl games in six years.
In his six-year career in Logan, Wells had an overall record of 44-34 and 30-18 in Mountain West play
