Off to a rough start this season, the Lobos roster should be much improved next year

New Mexico received commitment Sunday from JUCO transfer Isaiah Maurice.

The 6’9″, 225-pound forward currently plays with South Plains College in Levelland, Texas. According to the official team site, Maurice is averaging 12.1 points per game and 4.3 rebounds per game while shooting 73.0% from the field.

Maurice, a native of Durham, North Carolina, played his freshman season last year with Kansas State. He played in 30 games, averaging 8.8 minutes per game and converting 58.6% of his field goal attempts.

On June 15, Maurice was dismissed from the team due to a violation of team rules. “There are standards of conduct required to be a member of our program, and there are consequences when those standards are not met,” Kansas State head coach Bruce Weber noted after the Maurice dismissal.

In December of Maurice’s freshman season with Kansas State, Maurice was suspended for three games due to “violations of department policy.”

Maurice will be the fifth Lobo newcomer for the 2018-19 season. He joins Ohio State transfer JaQuan Lyle, Connecticut transfer Vance Jackson, JUCO transfer Tajuan Agee and freshman commit Drue Drinnon. New Mexico only has four seniors on the roster right now – guard Antino Jackson, forward Sam Logwood, forward Joe Furstinger and center Connor MacDougall.

New Mexico is 3-7 on the season after Saturday’s loss to New Mexico State.
