The first bracket will be revealed
For the third-straight year, CBS Sports is unveiling its top 16 teams in a bracket preview as it would look if it were Selection Sunday.
The big question is if the Nevada Wolf Pack will be among the top 16 teams and thus earning at least a four-seed. Nevada has a lot of questions about being ranked as a protective seed, and the biggest one is that they have zero Quadrant 1 victories.
Nevada does have eight Quadrant 2 victories and a 22-1 record but that might not be enough to land them a protected seed. Also, the 27-point New Mexico loss will factor into their seeding since the Lobos are 174th in the latest available NET ratings.
Nevada is a really good team but the opponents it has played is dogging its strength of schedule and just might keep the Wolf Pack on the outside looking in when the first announcement of protected seeds is made on Saturday.
Selection committee chairman and Stanford athletic director Bernard Muir will represent the committee and definitely look for questions to be asked to him about the new NET rating and how it is impacting the seeding in the first year of this new formula.
