Covid knocks out Hawaii from bowl game
The Hawaii football program will not be participating in the EasyPost Hawaii Bowl due to a high number of COVID-19 issues within the Warriors program.
“We are disappointed our season has to end this way,” head coach Todd Graham said in a released statement. “As competitive as we are and as much as we want to play the game, we cannot put the health and safety of our student-athletes at risk.”
“The health and safety of our student-athletes is the most important part of this decision,” said Athletics Director David Matlin. “The recent surge in COVID-19 cases has forced us to not participate in the game. We are disappointed for our players, coaches, and fans. ESPN and the EasyPost Hawai‘i Bowl staff did everything they could for us and we appreciate their valiant effort throughout the week. We want to thank the Memphis Tigers for making the long trip to Hawai‘i. We are disappointed we can’t compete on the football field.”

There were some rumblings of COVID-19 issues with as many as 20 players testing positive and add that with a number of players transferring from the program.
This might actually be a good thing for Hawaii since the program was not trending in the right direction after a Twitter spaces held a few weeks ago railing against head coach Todd Graham and how he was running the program.

The Warriors were to be without starting quarterback Chevan Cordeiro, starting running back Dae Dae Hunter, and starting cornerback Cameron Lockridge.
The end result could have been bad against even a 6-6 Memphis team. Now, the Tigers get a fun vacation to wrap up their season with the game being canceled.
