With Marty English set to retire after the Colorado State Rams bowl game, the Rams were already looking at some major changes. Now they add to those changes.

Offensive Coordinator/O-Line coach Will Friend is joining Jeremy Pruitt’s staff at Tennessee. Friend will become the O-Line coach at Tennessee.

While Will Friend was on staff as offensive coordinator, head coach Mike Bobo called the plays. Friend’s main focus was the O-Line and the run game.

Friend led a unit that decreased the amount of sacks allowed per game each year he was in charge. In 2015, CSU allowed 1.31 sacks per game. In 2016, they allowed 1 sack per game. And in 2017, CSU has allowed on 0.67 sacks per game.

Cornerbacks coach Terry Fair is also headed to Tennessee. Fair returns to Tennessee, where he was a first round draft pick at corner. Fair also received his start at coaching under Butch Jones as a graduate assistant.

According to Kevin Lytle of The Coloradoan, coach Bobo has said that graduate assistant Kevin O’Brien will lead the offensive line and safeties coach Jamie Bryant will coach the corners at the Rams bowl game.

Bobo will have 4 coaching spots to fill with the addition of a 10th coach. With the departures of Marty English, Friend, and Fair coach Bobo has about $923,000 to work with to hire an offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, and a cornerbacks coach. It’s unknown at this time if CSU will expand the pool of money available for assistants with the addition of a 10th coach.
