James had knee surgery during the offseason

Colorado State senior forward Deion James will redshirt this season, per his Twitter account and later confirmed by Mile High Sports’ Rich Kurtzman.

James averaged 10.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game last season, his first in a Rams uniform. The former North Carolina A&T Aggie started in 21 of his 31 appearances during the ’17-18 season.

An offseason knee surgery is the presumed reason behind the redshirt. Sources told Mountain West Wire earlier this offseason that James’ surgery was successful, but it’s clear that the 6-8 senior hasn’t progressed along far enough to be ready for the season.

Colorado State begins its regular season Wednesday against Colorado Christian.
