After Saturday’s championship games the Mountain West bowl picture is a little more clear. However, the playoff is not and that could have a big impact on where the Mountain West bowl teams attend.
The Foster Farms bowl is in contention for a Mountain West team and that destination is a possibility if No. 7 Ohio State makes the College Football Playoff. The Buckeyes won the Big Ten title over No. 4 Wisconsin.
The Big Ten has eight bowl slots and eight bowl eligible teams, so if the Buckeyes go to the playoff that would leave open a spot in the Foster Farms bowl for the Mountain West to play a Pac-12 team.
This handy chart gives the guidelines of what team goes where, and for the Mountain West to go to the Fosters Farms bowls all of the other slots must be filled up.
Also to consider is that there are 80 bowl eligible teams for 78 slots, so there is a chance that a 6-6 Utah State team could be left out.
