Don’t be shocked Nevada fell so far.

Nevada suffered its second loss of the year after falling to San Diego State this past week and it was a costly one in the latest national rankings.

The Associated Press dropped the Wolf Pack from sixth to 12th and the coaches poll was even less kind by giving Nevada a No. 13 ranking.

It should not be all that surprising that Nevada took a big hit. While the Aztecs are streaking by winning eight of nine, they have just 18 wins and are a sub-125 KenPom and NET team.

Even though the Wolf Pack have the third-most wins to date among Division 1 teams with 25 — only Gonzaga’s 27 and Houston’s 26 have more — it is the lack of quality wins the team has this year. It is not for a lack of trying by facing three Pac-12 schools which have all underachieved this year.

This is the first time that Nevada has been outside the top 10 all year and they just might remain there for the rest of the regular season. Utah State would be a big win and give them some more credit and they get the Aztecs but as seen by the loss which knocked the Wolf Pack down, a win over San Diego State likely will bare little to no weight to move up in the rankings.
