Utah State is the frontrunner in the Mountain West.
The first Associated Press top 25 for college basketball has dropped and from the Mountain West there is only one team ranked and it is the Utah State Aggies who come in at No. 17.
Utah State being ranked was expected but getting into the top 20 was a surprose for the defending Mountain West champion Aggies.
Add this to the preseason accolades for Utah State which was predicted unanimously — for the first time ever — to win the Mountain West by the media. Also, Sam Merrill was pegged as the preseason player of the year and Neemias Queta joined Merrill on the first-team all-league team.
This is the most hyped Utah State team in school history and more so than any team under former head coach Stew Morrill under his legendary career in Logan.
Expectations will be high and it will be a fun team to watch to see if Utah State can make an NCAA Tournament run this year.
