Who is considered the best?
Mountain West basketball media days are going on right now and the big awards were announced. There was not a surprise at what team was going to be the top pick to win and it is Utah State.
The Aggies snagged all 17 of the first-place votes by the media and are poised to repeat as champions. The league that covers the media basically had the exact same outcome of our staff poll with the only exception was our writers had Boise State fourth and Nevada fifth.
If we are to look at what Mountain West team could outperform its ranking look no further than Air Force. The Falcons return their top five scorers from last year and have preseason first-team player in Lavelle Scottie.
Air Force likely won’t win the league but they have a good shot of pulling off an upset or two, specifically at home, and could finish in the top half of the league and have a bye in the conference tournament.
Also, don’t sleep on Fresno State either. They have been winners in the league and no longer have a rookie coach.
