The Broncos crushed the Lobos at home, 90-62.
If one tweet could sum up Boise State’s win over New Mexico it would be this tweet by Chandler Hutchison put back dunk.
The victory for the Broncos was apparent from the get-go as they scored the first 13 points of this game and the largest lead of the game was 35 points in the second half after a three-pointer by Lexus Williams made it 67-32.
Everyone got in on the scoring for Boise State with Justinian Jessup leading five players who scored in double figures with 23 points, including making 5 of 7 from three-point range.
“We’ve got a lot of confidence right now, and we’re doing a good job of not letting it get to our head,” said Alex Hobbs who scored 18 points off the bench. “We all see a bigger picture. We all want that championship, and we know every game we have to keep playing and keep getting better as a team.”
Boise State used its size advantage to out rebound the Lobos 45-25, and the Broncos defense had a big game as New Mexico shot 35 percent from the field. The Lobos were then forced to shoot a lot of three-pointers by being down by double-digits but that failed as the team shot only 6 of 27.
Lobos head coach Paul Weir thought the use of a up tempo and tight defense would force the Broncos to a less stout lineup with ball handlers, but that scheme had little to no impact on Boise State.
“I thought maybe our pressure would maybe get them into some smaller lineups and get us some better matchups, and it did at times,” Weir said after the game to the Albuquerque Journal. “But they just kind of stuck with their size. And got the ball inside. It didn’t even necessarily hurt us as much on the defensive end, as bad as it was (there). We just couldn’t finish around the rim. They’re length around the rim really bothered us and we just left a lot of points there.”
The Lobos have not won a single game away from Dreamstyle Arena this year, so one positive for New Mexico is that its next two are back at the friendly confines of The Pit and next is vs. San Jose State.
Up next for Boise State is a Jan. 6 road game against the Wyoming Cowboys.
