Air Force Dismantles UNLV 48-14
An Impressive Outing To Conclude The Regular Season

When the day started, there was still a very legitimate chance that Air Force could claim the Mountain Division title. Those hopes diminished just before their kickoff against the UNLV Rebels, unfortunately. With Boise State’s loss to San Diego State, and Utah State’s cake walk through Albuquerque, it would have been very easy for the Falcons to sleep walk through their contest with UNLV.
A disinterested team? Air Force was anything but, much to the misfortune of the Rebels. From the very kickoff, which UNLV coughed up to Air Force, who promptly scored; this game was a complete drubbing. At no point were the Reb’s a threat to even keep the game interesting.
The Falcons rattled off over 500 yards rushing, despite missing Haaziq Daniels, Deandre Hughes and Dane Kinamon, among others. This was an exercise of dominance on both sides of the ball, as the defense harassed UNLV’s Justin Rogers all game long, collecting eight TFL’s and five sacks. Standout running back, Charles Williams played well after the reserves were put in elsewhere, and was able to inflate his stats for the game with a late 72 yard rush, bringing his total to 137 for the game. This note is important because he was chasing Air Force’s Brad Roberts for the Conference rushing title.
When the dust settled, the Falcons tuned up the Rebels 48-14. Even though they had to start depth players all over the place due to injury, it was good to see players way down the depth chart get into the game.
Noteworthy
Despite rolling up over 500 yards of offense, Air Force didn’t attempt a single pass all game.
Brandon Lewis continues to shine with every touch of the football. He didn’t haul in a 90+ yard pass this week, but he did have a 41 yard touchdown carry.
Brad Roberts remains atop the Conference as the rushing yards leader, despite a short workload today. He finished the regular season with 1,181 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Matthew Dapore keeps getting better. The freshman kicker knocked through both field goal attempts today, his long being 38 yards out. He was also perfect on extra points.
Quarterbacks Jensen Jones and Zach Larrier both recorded their first career touchdowns, in equally impressive fashion. Jones run was with precision and git, while the track star Larrier clearly possesses the speed and elusiveness that will have to be showcased more often in 2022.
All Vince Sanford does is cause havoc. Another day, another game with multiple tackles behind the line of scrimmage. He’s made a case for Mountain West Defensive Player of the year.
