As the newest Associated Press Top 25 rankings dropped on Monday, the Mountain West Conference is still nowhere to be found. But, they are getting closer to cracking the list.

After both Colorado State and San Diego State blew their chances of getting in, the conference has been left off for a number of weeks.

However, Boise State is really close to making it in. Here is the newest AP Top 25 rankings

  1. Auburn
  2. Gonzaga
  3. UCLA
  4. Purdue
  5. Kentucky
  6. Houston
  7. Arizona
  8. Baylor
  9. Duke
  10. Kansas
  11. Wisconsin
  12. Villanova
  13. Michigan State
  14. Texas Tech
  15. Providence
  16. Ohio State
  17. Connecticut
  18. Illinois
  19. USC
  20. Iowa State
  21. Xavier
  22. Tennessee
  23. Texas
  24. Marquette
  25. LSU

Others Receiving Votes: Alabama 97, Murray State 42, Saint Mary’s 32, Boise State 32, Miami (FL) 29, Indiana 22, Davidson 10, Arkansas 7, Iowa 6, Iona 6, TCU 4, Notre Dame 4, Loyola Chicago 4, Colorado State 3, Toledo 1

The Broncos received 32 votes, the most in the MWC by a mile. The only other team to earn some votes was the Rams.

Colorado State lost to San Diego State earlier in January by 30 points, then they proceeded to climb back up slowly. That is, until a disastrous 14-point loss to UNLV on Friday, in Fort Collins. Ouch.

Boise State survived an overtime thriller against Fresno State on Friday night, thanks to a game-tying shot by Marcus Shaver Jr. to send the game into overtime – which led to a  Broncos five-point victory.

Boise State sits atop the MWC at 8-0 and 17-4 overall. After that is Wyoming and Colorado State, although the Rams loss to 12-9 UNLV hurts them a lot more than the earlier loss to the Aztecs.

Colorado State has a massive week coming up with games against Wyoming and San Diego State, and a pair of victories should push them closer to cracking the rankings once again.

Nonetheless, another week without a MWC team in the Top 25, and the conference continues to look like a one or two-team league when the NCAA Tournament rolls around.
