Wyoming Names Sean Chambers Its Starting Quarterback

Cowboys go with a former starter
One of the most hotly contested quarterback battles in the Mountain West was taking place in Laramie, Wyoming, between Sean Chambers and Levi Williams. Both had starting experience and played well when they saw the field.
The initial post-spring depth chart has Chambers ahead of Williams. Chambers has been hurt over parts of the past two years and when healthy has been the starting quarterback.

Chambers was the starter in 2019 before he was injured late in the year and then Williams came in and played well to wrap the season and had a great bowl game against Georgia Southern in the Arizona Bowl. He was 11 of 26 for 234 yards and three touchdowns, plus another 53 yards and a score on the round.
This was setting up for a Chambers vs. Williams showdown for 2020 but Chambers was hurt again and Williams led the team last year.
Heading into ’21 it will be Chambers. The depth at quarterback for the Cowboys is near the top of the conference by having two players who started multiple games. Boise State is the other who has a pair of quarterbacks each with starting experience, but the Broncos have not named their starter yet between Jack Sears and Hank Bachmeier.
When starting, Chambers has a 9-3 record and 2,081 total yards and 22 touchdowns with 12 of those on the ground.

Naming a starting quarterback after spring football was the plan all along for head coach Craig Bohl, but the door is still open for Williams to make a push in fall camp.
When speaking about the quarterbacks, Bohl is adamant to not rotate or make any rash decisions by swapping these two in and out frequently.
“What I’m not going to do is just have musical chairs there,” Bohl said late in spring football. “We’ll take a look and name a starter unless some things really become uneven during fall camp. That does not mean there won’t be an evaluation during the fall, but I don’t think you’re going to see an either/or. I really don’t. However, I can tell you the competition is razor thin. It’s been very, very good.”
The offense will be different this fall because Bohl and new offensive coordinator Tim Polasek who wants to open up the passing game and make the Cowboys less one-dimensional and rely so much on the passing game.
Wyoming opens up its 2021 season hosting Montana State on Sept. 4.
