New Mexico @ Boise State called off for this weekend

Somewhat surprising news drops in as the series is postponed.

This is a bit of a different one. UNM at Boise, as I wrote about it was possibly going to be pushed back later in the week from its original Thursday/Saturday dates, to Saturday/Sunday. Not due to COVID issues directly, but due to UNM not wanting to play after not having much practice time, and having to move locations out of state to even hold a practice.

The response I’ve seen from most Boise State fans, media members is the resounding question of why wait till now to delay this? Which is a fair question, because now Boise State can’t realistically head to Mohegan Sun and replace those games with some non-conference matchups. Now, Boise plays next on 12/9 against BYU which is going to be 10 days from their previous game against Sam Houston State. A tough situation for Leon Rice, and his team as something out of his control is hindering his ability for his team to get into the flow of things early in the season.

The Broncos opted to add a non-conference game against a D2 team where they won handily.

Update: It was announced that the series between Boise and New Mexico has been rescheduled for December 21st and December 23rd both taking place in Boise. The Broncos had to cancel a December 21st game with Loyola Marymount in order to make this game happen.
