Conflicting reports
College football is in full on scramble mode despite games scheduled to begin in one month on Aug. 29. One of those Week 0 games scheduled is New Mexico vs. Idaho State.
However, news came from The Athletic’s Nicole Auerbach says that the Idaho State game and New Mexico State game could flip weeks.

This would mean that the Rio Grande Rivalry would open up on Aug. 29 at Las Cruces and then the Idaho State vs. New Mexico game will be played on Sept. 19 in Albuquerque.
Nothing is official on this but the reasoning for the flip would allow for a college football game to be played. New Mexico’s governor already wants to postpone both the Aggies and Lobos football season. Plus, the state has a 14-day quarantine for those who come from out of state.

To solve the quarantine issue and keep a Week 0 game, it makes the most sense for the in-state schools to play each other since there is no reason to isolate anyone.
This also would buy another week and hope that COVID-19 conditions improve in New Mexico and maybe scrap the quarantine and/or get a better plan to play as many college football games as possible in 2020.
Basically, everything is on the table to have a college football season to play as many games as possible and this potential move is a smart one.
