These are the final bowl projections before things get official now that the College Football Playoff matchups have been announced with Clemson, Georgia, Oklahoma and Alabama.
Ohio State getting into the playoff would have been huge for the Mountain West. However, most projections still see the Buckeyes and also Wisconsin in a New Year’s Six game. That also opens up a Foster Farms spot in the mix, and likely for SDSU.
A few other bowls have SDSU in non-Mountain West affiliated bowl games.
The Mountain West has six bowl eligible teams for five spots with the alternate spots being the Foster Farms and Cactus Bowls as backups, or the Frisco Bowl which has an at-large berth.
This handy chart gives the guidelines of what team goes where, and for the Mountain West to go to the Fosters Farms bowls all of the other slots must be filled up.
Also to consider is that there are 80 bowl eligible teams for 78 slots, so there is a chance that a 6-6 Utah State team could be left out.
