2021 Mountain West Title Game: Utah State Aggies Win Mountain Division

The Utah State Aggies have been one of college football’s greatest stories in 2021. After defeating New Mexico on the road and getting a bit of assistance from the San Diego State Aztecs, that story is going to get another chapter.

San Diego State’s 27-16 victory over the Boise State Broncos, combined with USU’s 35-10 win over the Lobos, clinched the Mountain Division for the Aggies on Friday afternoon. Now, Utah State will hit the road to Carson in order to face those very same Aztecs at Dignity Health Sports Park next Saturday.
This marks Utah State’s first appearance in the Mountain West Conference championship game since 2013, when they lost on the road to Derek Carr and the Fresno State Bulldogs. Blake Anderson’s Aggies hope to rewrite the script this time around and claim the program’s first conference title since 2012, their last year in the Western Athletic Conference.
San Diego State, meanwhile, is back in the title game for the first time since defeating Wyoming in 2016. Though this is the program’s third appearance in the Mountain West championship game, it is the first time they will get to host it and, they hope, extend their 2-0 record there.
