The Wofford Terriers from the Southern Conference enter their Week 3 matchup with Wyoming at 2-0. The Terriers feature an option offense and have averaged 420 rushing yards per game in victories over The Citadel and VMI. Wofford is currently ranked 7th in the FCS Coaches Poll and were quarterfinalist in last season’s FCS Playoff.

3 Keys to a Wyoming Win

Find a passing game

Wyoming desperately needs to find a passing game in order to have success this season. Tyler Vander Waal is averaging 121 passing yards per game through the first three games of the season. In the first game, the Cowboys were able to run with success on every down but it was against an overmatched New Mexico State program. In the last 2 games, Wyoming has averaged 3.3 yards per carry. Wyoming should be able to have success this week against Wofford but the Cowboys will need to figure out how they are going to move the ball through the air if they want to have any success offensively against MW competition.

Get off the field on 3rd down

Two weeks ago against Washington State, the Cougars were 3 of 14 on 3rd down conversitions but were 3 of 4 on 4th down conversions. Last week, Missouri was an outstanding 14 of 20 on 3rd down last week. With an offense that has struggled to keep the ball, Wyoming’s defense can’t afford to spend unnecessary time on the field.

Defensive line return to dominance

The Cowboys entered the season with a nationally recognized defensive line. After an impressive performance against New Mexico State in which Wyoming recorded 4 sacks, the Cowboys have been held without a sack. While the Terriers will bring an option offense to Laramie on Saturday, the Pokes will need their defensive line to own the line of scrimmage like they did during their only win this season.
