Wyoming To Allow 7,000 Fans For Football Games

There will be a crowd at War Memorial Stadium

On Tuesday, the University of Wyoming announced that it will allow 7,000 fans in attendance when football returns the week of October 24th. The news is a bright light in a season of so much uncertainty. A season that had previously seen numerous delays and ultimately a cancelation is finally being allowed to be played. With the announcement of a return to play, the conference left the decision of allowing spectators up to the individual member schools.

Wyoming athletic director Tom Burman, president Ed Seidel, and state and local health officials met to piece together a plan that would allow fans in the stadium while minimizing risks from the coronavirus.

“We want to thank the Wyoming Department of Health for all their efforts in working with us to allow fans at our football games this fall,” Burman said in a statement. “Mike Ceballos, Dr. Alexia Harrist and Stephanie Pyle at for us to work within the lead up to this announcement. We all want a safe environment at our games while still allowing for as many fans as is deemed safe.”

7,000 fans will be allowed to view the game in the stands. This number represents a 25 percent capacity crowd of the nearly 28,000 seat War Memorial Stadium. Seats will be available in clusters of 4, with adequate social distancing between others. Tickets will be sold on a single game basis and will become available Oct. 7th at the earliest, or whenever the Mountain West releases the altered 2020 schedules.

Wyoming, who arguably has one of the greatest home-field advantages in the conference, will likely welcome the fans in attendance. The elevation, coupled with the crowd noise, wreaks havoc on opposing teams and can be a deciding factor in many games.

Any fans this season, which has been marred by so much uncertainty, is a welcome gift. I do wish that health officials would have allowed for just a few more fans, 220 possibly? Think about it, 7220 at 7220′, it would have been something special.
