What does Wyoming have to say about it?

As predicted, the Cowboys were one of four teams left out of bowl season. The MW only has 5 bowl tie-ins and had seven bowl, eligible teams. At 6-6, the Pokes would need the conference to find 2 extra bids. Fortunately for Nevada, they were able to secure one extra spot but were unable to find a second one for Wyoming.

Wyoming coach Craig Bohl responded with the following comment:

What about the Potato Bowl?

The Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, one of the primary bowls for the MW, will not have a MW participant this season. BYU was selected to take the Mountain West’s slot and the league was able to move Boise State to the First Responders Bowl to play Boston College.

Wyoming AD Tom Burman explained:

I imagine the conversation between ESPN exec’s and MW commissioner Craig Thompson looking something like this.

ESPN: Hey Craig, we really need a spot for BYU but they were 6-6 and nobody wants them. Do you think you can help us out?

Thompson: That’s so sad to hear (laughter followed by short pause)… but maybe we can help. We have a bowl game in Boise that none of our fanbases want to go to, maybe we can take BYU and you guys can find a nice home for Boise State? I would hate to see the Broncos have to play in one of the bowls we have contracted with.

ESPN: Hmm…Well how does a bowl in Dallas sound against an ACC team?

Thompson: Oh goodie! Boise State will be so proud of me! Thank you!

(I’m not looking for a fight Bronco Nation, I’m just teasing you. Your neighbors to the east could use a quick laugh.)

Congrats to the six MW teams that made it!
