Defensive Coordinator Scottie Hazelton Joining Kansas State Wildcats

In an offseason that started calm, the Wyoming Cowboys faced a major shakeup when Kansas State reached out to Scottie Hazelton to fill their defensive coordinator position.

The Wildcats new coach, Chris Klieman, was a former Craig Bohl assistant at North Dakota State. With a huge shadow to overcome, Bohl led the Bison to 3 consecutive FCS Championships before taking the Wyoming job, Klieman added championships in 4 of his 5 seasons at NDSU.

Klieman started as the defensive backs coach in 2011 while Hazelton was the defensive coordinator. When Hazelton left after the season to coach at USC, Klieman took over as coordinator.

At Wyoming, Hazelton put together the first ranked scoring defense in the Mountain West in his first season and the second-best unit overall last year.

He also had led multiple All-Mountain West players on the defensive side of the ball like Logan Wilson, Andrew Wingard, Carl GrandersonYouhanna Ghaifan and more.

What’s Next For Wyoming?

After announcing the offensive line coach Scott Fuchs would be leaving the program, Wyoming announced that former Colorado co-offensive coordinator Klayton Adams would fill that role. Running backs coach Mike Bath who was reassigned to another role on the offense left for Western Michigan and staffer Gordie Haug was promoted to coaching the running backs in 2019.
