Aztecs going bowling or staying home?
San Diego State football team is 7-5 and is bowl-eligible, but there is a high probability that they will not make a bowl. This season all of their games have come down to the wire even when they shouldn’t be.
For example, like in their home opener vs. Sacramento State, they needed two late touchdowns with about four minutes left to beat them by 14. Some teams who the Aztecs are more athletic than, San Diego State still struggled against.
Like San Jose State who the Aztecs have dominated against recently, SDSU needed a late field goal to win 16-13. Another lower level team in the Mountain West the Aztecs surprisingly lost to UNLV at home by three.
However, on the other hand, the Aztecs have beaten some difficult opponents. In their third game of the season, Arizona State came to town and San Diego State fought off a seven-point deficit at the half to beat the Sun Devils by seven.
Also, SDSU in their first conference matchup of the year went to Boise, Idaho to play Mountain West preseason favorites the Boise State Broncos. In that game, the defense played outstanding and the Aztecs came out victorious and won 19-13.
There are five bowl games that have a Mountain West in it but this year there are seven bowl-eligible teams. However, there are two bowl games that have a Mountain West team as a tie-in so the Aztecs and other bowl-eligible MW teams are lucking out with this scenario.
I still think they could miss out because of their play recently where they have lost three straight and two of those have come at home. Hopefully, they can participate in a bowl game and end their season on a more positive note.
