Week 0 was fun.

So, this weekly recap of the big things from the Mountain West football weekend will be short since there was just one game, but we will give it a go. Expect a whole lot more next week in this regular feature.

Quarterback controversy?

Hawaii head coach Nick Rolovich made a move at quarterback after Cole McDonald threw his fourth interception and replaced him with Chevan Cordeiro who finished the game and helped the Warriors get the win.

There are two weeks until Hawaii takes on Oregon State so it looks like the Warriors will be trying to figure out who should start.

Boise State names a quarterback

Speaking of quarterbacks, Boise State head coach Bryan Harsin basically named Hank Bachmeier the starter for next week’s game against Florida State. Harsin left some wiggle room by saying if the game was today, but it would be a bigger shock if Chase Cord starts under center to start the season.

Cedric Byrd is Mr. Week 0

The Hawaii wide receiving corp was expected to good but they are really good and it starts with Cedric Byrd who might be the best wide out in the league.

In last year’s Week 0 game, Byrd had 11 receptions for 181 yards and a touchdown. He is going to be a player that every single defense and secondary will have to scheme against.

Manly Williams is the MVP

The final play of the game between Hawaii and Arizona was stopped short and the hero of that play can be Manly Williams hauling down the field to help make the play. Williams was part of the pass rush and hustled down the field to ensure there was no score.
