San Diego State is thiiiiiis close
The latest AP and coaches polls are out and the Mountain West is getting a bit. more respect in the latest Week 4 polls. Even though Fresno State struggled in its win over UNLV, the Bulldogs still were able to come from behind to beat winless Rebels, 38-30.
Despite the close win, Fresno State moved up the rankings and is now a top-20 team in the AP poll and still ahead of UCLA which should be the case for a while since the Bulldogs own the head-to-head victory from Week 3.
The Coaches Poll is a bit different as they have UCLA still ahead of Fresno State but they did move up to No. 21 from 25th but moving up even though this poll is basically a farce, it doesn’t really matter.
San Diego State is extremely close to being ranked. The Aztecs are 4-0 and just easily dismantled Towson, as they should have, but beating up on that level of a team won’t do much. The Aztecs are just a few spots out of both polls and could get there in a few weeks as they have a bye and then they host New Mexico and the week after travel to San Jose State.
Wyoming actually earned a single 25th place vote in the coaches poll. The Cowboys are undefeated at 4-0 but barely squeaked past UConn over the weekend, but undefeated is undefeated. Wyoming is off next week before going on the road to face Air Force. For the Cowboys to get ranked they will need to probably be at the very least 6-0 which would include a win over Fresno State on Oct. 16.
