Have the Aggies found their coach?

Gary Andersen’s name surfaces again.

Utah State’s coaching search looks to be coming to an end per Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports. Thamel is reporting that all future interviews have been canceled and the top target is former Utah State head coach Gary Andersen.

This is the second time in less than a week that Andersen has appeared to be the top choice. Football Scoop reported on Sunday that the former Aggie head coach was going to have a second go around in Logan, but that report was not accurate as those within the coaching search were not on the same page at the time.

The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman is chiming in as well on this search and citing “donor pressure” to bring back Andersen.

So, we have been here before and maybe the search team went through the candidates and interviews (none of which are known publicly) and felt going back to the familiarity of Andersen.

He was the Utah State coach that started this revolution of Aggie football where bowl games were starting to be the norm and losing seasons were unacceptable.

Since leaving Utah State for the Wisconsin head coaching job, Andersen was the head coach at Oregon State before stepping down mid-season and recently he has been an assistant head coach at the Universit of Utah.

Of course, this is not official and Thamel does not state that Andersen is getting the job or even in negotiations with the Aggies, but rather he is the top target. Utah State fans have been through this less than a week ago and with this being the silly season anything can happen until a coach signs on the dotted line, or has its introductory press conference.
