The Runnin’ Rebels were set for a test at home on Wednesday when they welcomed Eastern Washington, but now they face a presumably pause in activities.

UNLV’s mid-week home opener has been canceled due to a positive test in the program.
The Runnin’ Rebels will likely receive a rest after one of the tougher non-conference slates in the entire Mountain West (three top-100 teams and two top-200, per KenPom).
With the news of a positive test in the UNLV men’s basketball program announced by Jeff Goodman on Twitter, just minutes ahead of the Runnin’ Rebels official announcement, the scheduled home opener against reigning Big Sky champions and heavy repeat favorites Eastern Washington has been canceled.

Apparently Eastern Washington was notified before they made the trip south to Sin City, but impromptu scheduling announcements, additions, cancelations and all of the above are just a part of athletics in the year known as 2020.
The KenPom line on this one had UNLV as the two point favorites, after seeing the Eagles take on three consecutive Pac-12 opponents to start their 2020-2021 campaign and hold their own most of the way, that felt spot on.
It’s completely understandable the approach to scheduling second year head coach T.J. Otzelberger and his staff have taken. With a set back loss to a very good Montana State team to open the season and as participants in the “Maui” invitation this year. UNLV is certainly confident and out for a strong conference finish, but this pause in activities puts a little bit of uncertainty around the program for the coming weeks.
We’ll be here with more updates as they come, but for now this is the current normal and we have to adapt. No matter how many rough drafts are lost in the process, cheers folks and thanks for reading.
