Wyoming will be back on the football field for the first time in three weeks after the prior two against Air Force and Utah State were canceled due to COVID-19. UNLV also coming off an unexpected bye as their game against Colorado State did not happen.
The Rebels are winless under the Marcus Arroyo era but the good news is that they might finally have their quarterback in Justin Rogers who came in against San Jose State and played well enough to be the starting quarterback by completing 12 of 18 for 162 yards and a score.
Getting a full week to prepare for a Wyoming team could allow Rogers to take the next step as the starter. However, Wyoming’s defense is one that will provide a lot of trouble for the entire Rebels’ offense.
Wyoming has the overall team but they are missing one key player as starting defensive end Victor Jones. Jones has started all three of the Cowboys’ games. He has 13 tackles and three tackles for loss. He’s tied for second on the team with 1.5 sacks.
Redshirt freshmen Jaylen Pate and DeVonne Harris are the Cowboys’ top two options at the defensive end spot.
The Cowboys defensive front has suffered a number of injuries and opt-outs for this fall but the unit has still played fairly well. That is an area where perhaps UNLV’s Charles Williams can run with success against this Cowboys team.
