Will the winning streak continue?
UNLV continues their string of games at home as they take on the Valparaiso Crusaders as part of the Mountain West/Missouri Valley Challenge. The Runnin Rebels are coming off of a narrow victory (76-71) over Southern Utah University. The Rebels gave SUU their first loss of the season mainly because of their dominance on the boards.
UNLV grabbed 24 offensive rebounds in the game. SUU only finished with 29 total rebounds compared to UNLV’S 29 defensive rebounds. The Rebels also went to the free throw line 43 times making 30 of those free throws. This team has a formula of crashing the offensive glass with athletic forwards Shakur Juiston and Mbacke Diong leading the way. Offensive rebound is an edge this team has as it is five in the nation.
The Rebels will look to extend their winning streak to five games on Wednesday when the Valparaiso Crusaders come to town. UNLV is steadily improving on the season.
The team is ranked 47th in the nation in the NCAA’S new NET rating which replaces RPI. Coach Marvin Menzies has continued to use the same starting lineup in each game this season. Look for the Rebels to continue their winning ways against Valparaiso, by crashing the boards, getting second-chance points and getting to the free throw line
