UNLV Makes Short Work Of UTEP In A 52-24 Win On Saturday Night

A week after an encouraging performance in a loss at USC, the UNLV Rebels collected their first win of the 2018 college football season with a 52-24 dismantling of the UTEP Miners at Sam Boyd Stadium in spectacular Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Rebels started the scoring early when quarterback Armani Rogers found Mekhi Stevenson from 51 yards out on the fourth play of the game. UTEP tied the game five minutes later when a 9-play, 79-yard drive was capped off by a 1-yard touchdown run from Kai Locksley.

UTEP would manage just a single field goal the rest of the first half while UNLV would tack on another 31 points and take a 38-10 advantage into the break.

The Rebels dominance of the Miners continued into the second half when Lexington Thomas collected his second touchdown run of the contest and stretched the UNLV lead to 45-10 in the opening minute of the third quarter.

Locksley scored his second TD of the game in the third and both the Miners and Rebels found the end zone in the final quarter to close the 28-point UNLV victory.

Thomas shined once again for the Rebels. A week after rushing for 136 yards at USC, the All-Mountain West talent who’s chasing the school rushing record racked up another 127 yards against UTEP.

Rogers was as accurate throwing the ball as he needed to be. The UNLV signal caller connected on 6 of his 13 pass attempts, three of those completions for touchdowns. He added 103 yards and a score on the ground.

UNLV played turnover-free football and committed just three penalties. The Rebels racked up 527 total yards. The UNLV defense forced UTEP into three turnovers.

The Rebels’ quest for a bowl game continues when UNLV hosts Prairie View A&M in Las Vegas. UTEP travels to SEC country for a road matchup with the Tennessee Volunteers.
