UNLV will head to the islands for its 2018 non-conference tournament
CBS Sports and FanRag Sports’ Jon Rothstein reported Friday that UNLV will participate in the 2018 Diamond Head Classic.
The three-day tournament, which takes place in Honolulu, Hawaii, will also include TCU, Colorado, Rhode Island, Saint Mary’s, Indiana State, Hawaii and Charlotte.
The official dates and times have yet to be announced, but the tournament will be televised by ESPN’s family of networks. San Diego State won the 2016 Diamond Head Classic title, beating San Francisco 62-48.
The event has taken place in the Stan Sherrif Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. The arena is home to the University of Hawaii’s men’s and women’s basketball teams.
Of the eight 2018 contenders, Colorado, Rhode Island, Saint Mary’s and Hawaii have been to the NCAA Tournament at least once over the previous three seasons. TCU (11-0) is one four remaining undefeated teams in college basketball this season.
UNLV, which is off to a 10-2 start to the season, has been thriving under the guidance of Marvin Menzies and its bulk of newcomers.
