Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua becomes the latest player from the class of 2018 to commit to the Runnin’ Rebels.

Tchatchoua, a native of Cameroon, becomes one of the first two graduates of the NBA Global Academy to secure a scholarship for a Division I school.

Marvin Menzies has struck again, landing a commitment Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua, a native of Cameroom who has recently graduated from the NBA Global Academy in Australia.

The 6’7″ forward is far from a finished product, but possesses elite athleticism which he uses to aggressively attack the basket on the offensive end.  On the defensive and rebounding side, he possesses a wing span of 7’2″, which should allow for him to guard multiple positions while also developing into an elite rebounder and shot blocker.

However, as noted above, Tchamwa Tchatchoua is a project player.  His footwork and shooting form still need to be refined if he’s going to be a consistent contributor on the offensive end of the floor.  But that being said, he’s coming to a program with a coach known for developing post players, which should benefit him greatly.

Outlook: Tchamwa Tchatchoua took a little while to get his feet wet in the five on five action, but really came alive as the Camp went on. He was one of the most impressive big men athletically at the BWB, and also played extremely hard on top of that. One of the first players the NBA invited to their Global Academy in Australia, Tchamwa Tchatchoua is in a great environment to continue to improve and seems to have terrific intangibles, which should help him reach his full potential.

This should turn out to be a very good pick up for Menzies and his staff as he continues to try and find long term players to build the UNLV program around.

From a scholarship standpoint, this puts the Runnin’ Rebels one over the maximum amount allowed.  This either means that Noah Robotham, their starting point guard, is going to be paying his own way again this year, or a player will be leaving the program.
