UNLV Looks To Extend Win Streak Against BYU

UNLV Looks To Get Back To .500

Can The Rebels Make It Three In a Row?

After squeaking by Hawai’i for their second consecutive win last week, The Rebels are getting set to host BYU on Friday. The Cougars, who are coming off of a 20-13 loss against Fresno State, have not had a good season. At 2-8, they are looking at just trying to finish the season strong. UNLV wants no part in that. At 4-5, the Rebels have a chance to get back to .500 on the season, and surpass last years win total.

At quarterback, look for Johnny Stanton to get the start once again. In last week’s win over Hawai’i, the senior threw for two touchdowns and no interceptions and has played well in the midst of the Rebels’ win streak. While Stanton will start, don’t be surprised to see Armani Rogers on a few plays. In his weekly press conference, head coach Tony Sanchez said that the team will have a few packages ready to go for the redshirt freshman quarterback.

As for the Cougars, quarterback Tanner Mangum suffered a season ending achilles tendon injury in last week’s loss, and that has BYU looking for a new starter. The plan, according to the Salt Lake Tribune, is to have Beau Hoge start if he is healthy enough. If not, there are three other quarterbacks on the roster to choose from.

With the season lost, and the quarterback situation not set, UNLV has a good chance of securing the victory, but BYU will most certainly not make it easy for the Rebels. Nonetheless, the game should be intriguing.

Kickoff is Friday at 7:30pm PT on ESPN2.
