UNLV named Arkansas defensive coordinator Barry Odom as the next head coach, UNLV athletics announced.
Odom will be the 13th head coach in program history and will replace former UNLV head coach Marcus Arroyo. On Nov. 28, Arroyo was fired after a 5-7 season in 2022. Odom will be the replacement and will lead the program into a new era.
For the last three seasons, Odom was Arkansas’ defensive coordinator. This will be Odom’s second opportunity as a head coach. Previously, Odom served as Missouri’s head coach from 2016 to 2019.
As Missouri’s head coach, Odom posted a 25-25 record. He guided Missouri to the 2017 Texas Bowl and the 2018 Liberty Bowl. Odom’s best season at Missouri was in 2018 when the Tigers finished the season with an 8-5 record.
Since UNLV had some success in 2022, Odom will be expected to get UNLV to its first bowl game since 2013. UNLV will be getting a head coach with experience coaching in the SEC.
Odom, who is a defensive-minded coach, will try to bolster UNLV’s defense.
