Runnin’ Rebels destroy Pac-12’s Utah in huge Wednesday night showdown

Brandon McCoy had 26 points and 17 rebounds as UNLV dismantled undefeated Utah 85-58 Wednesday night in the MGM Resorts Main Event championship game.

UNLV led all but 112 seconds, making quick work of a Utah team that entered the matchup favored despite the game being played at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

McCoy shined, but he wasn’t alone. Jordan Johnson had a night to remember, tallying 20 points off 8-13 shooting while also dishing out six assists and grabbing three rebounds. Jovan Mooring heated up in the second half and finished with 19 points, converting 3-7 from three-point range.

Just two Utah Utes finished in double figures. Donnie Tillman (14 points) and Tyler Rawson (10 points) led the way, but scoring was hard to come by against an energetic UNLV defense. The Rebels forced Utah to miss 65% of its field goal attempts, and the Utes connected on just two of their 20 tries from deep.

The state of Nevada now moves to 10-0 on the season, as both the Wolf Pack and Runnin’ Rebels have identical 5-0 records. UNLV’s next matchup is on Saturday at home against Southern Utah (2-2, 330th in KenPom).
