80-53 Loss Shows Colorado State’s Need For A Consistent Scorer
To say that Colorado State’s offensive performance during their 80-53 loss to Tulane at the first ever Jamaica Classic was “bad” would be putting it mildly. The Rams shot a dismal 35% from the field and turned the ball over 15 times on their way to their first loss of the season.
Colorado State struggled throughout the game to find some kind of offense. They couldn’t buy a basket in the first half finishing with a meager 14 points at halftime. At one point they went 8 plus minutes without a point. While the Tulane half-court defense was stout, Colorado State was missing everything they put up including wide open layups.
The Rams found more success in the second half as they tried driving to the basket and relied more on second chance points. They even cut the Tulane lead to 14 points which was a deficit that they already overcame once this season. But their inability to stop Tulane’s hot shooting and turnovers prevented Colorado State from mounting any kind of a serious comeback.
On the bright side, senior Che Bob did have a solid second half performance. After being shut out in the first half, Bob scored 15 points in the second to lead the Rams. He also led the team with 9 rebounds. The leading scorer heading into the game was junior guard Prentiss Nixon. Nixon finished with 6 points, all of which came in the second half.
Tulane provided Colorado State all kinds of problems. Tulane shot 50% from the field and went 12-25 from behind the arc. They were led by senior Cameron Reynolds 25 points (4-8 from three-point range) and junior guard Melvin Frazier who finished with 23 points.
Colorado State will play their next game of the tournament on Sunday against Florida State. Tip off is set for 3pm MST and can be seen on CBS Sports Network.
