Justin Hutson will be named the next Fresno State men’s basketball head coach, multiple sources have told Mountain West Wire.
The formal announcement is expected to occur Thursday.
Hutson, the former San Diego State associate head coach, will take over the reigns in Fresno. He has spent a total of ten seasons with SDSU, splitting two years in between at UNLV. Hutson was elevated to associate head coach under Brian Dutcher prior to this past season, which resulted in an NCAA Tournament appearance.
According to the Fresno Bee, Hutson is projected to receive a five-year deal worth $500,000 in the first season.
The position became vacant after Rodney Terry opted to sign with UTEP last month. Terry was the Bulldogs head coach for the previous seven seasons, going 126-108 in his tenure with a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2016. Assistants Brian Burton and Nick Matson have since joined Terry’s staff in El Paso.

Other candidates involved in the vacancy were Fresno State interim head coach Byron Jones, Cal State Fullerton head coach Dedrique Taylor, UCLA assistant coach David Grace, Oregon assistant coach Tony Stubblefield, and Marquette assistant coach Stan Johnson.
Fresno State was 21-11 last season, finishing fourth or higher in the Mountain West in each of the past three years.
