Six Burning Questions About Wyoming Football

What should we know about the Cowboys

What are the expectations for Wyoming.

The Wyoming football season kicks off hosting the Missouri Tigers, but before we get to that game the

1. What does a successful season look like?

For most of the Wyoming fan base, I think they would be happy to see the team return to the postseason. If Bohl is able to get that done this season, he will have had one of the more consistent four-year stretches in program history.

I want to see a little more than that. I’m looking for at least 8 wins and the Cowboys are competitive in every game. Wyoming has been completely outmatched in P5 games and I want to see them beat Mizzou or Boise State.

2. What does an unsuccessful football season look like?

Simply put, it’s anything short of a bowl game. This team has a lot of unknowns and I could realistically see anywhere between a 3-9 and 9-3 season. If the Cowboys can’t easily secure a spot in a bowl game, there will start to be some grumblings about the direction of the program.

3. Who is a player that no one is talking about that we should know now?

Alijah Halliburton. Logan Wilson and Sean Chambers have gotten most of the hype for  Wyoming but Halliburton has been a solid contributor and will finally get his chance to shine. He has been stuck behind a pair of four-year starters in Andrew Wingard and Marcus Epps during his first three seasons.

Last season, he was finally able to break onto the field for considerable time and finished the season 4th in tackles. He has a great chance to finish the season on an All-MW team.

4. What is the most important game of the year on the schedule?

All of them… but if I had to pick one that will show the trajectory of the season, I’ll take the Sept 21st game on the road against Tulsa. It’s a chance for the MW to match up with the AAC and it’s a game the Cowboys should win and need to win in order to reach the postseason.

It’s also the kind of game that the Pokes have been known fall flat in (see Wyoming at Tulsa 1998, Wyoming at Eastern Michigan 2016, Wyoming at Texas State 2014, Wyoming at San Jose State 2017)

5. What will be the record be this year?

8-4. I keep looking over the schedule and there should be 6 wins (Texas State, Idaho, Tulsa, UNLV, New Mexico, Nevada) 4 toss ups (SDSU, CSU, Utah State, and Air Force) and 2 losses (Mizzou and Boise State). If that’s the case, I think they can win at least 2 of the toss up games.

6. Give us one bold prediction?

The Cowboys will start the season 7-1 before entering the Boise State, Utah State, CSU and Air Force stretch
