The Colorado State Rams are looking to rebound after a disappointing 6th place performance in the Gulf Coast Showcase. They host the Southern Illinois Salukis in a Mountain West-Missouri Valley Challenge matchup. The Salukis are coming off a third place finish in the Las Vegas Invitational.

Southern Illinois is led a by a quartet of double digit scorers: Aaron Cook (6’2″ Guard, 12.2 PPG), Eric McGill (6’2″ Guard, 10.8 PPG), Marcus Bartley (6’5″ Guard, 10 PPG, 60.7% 3P%) and Kavion Pippen (6’10” Forward, 10.0 PPG, Scottie Pippen’s nephew).

The Salukis are 3-3 on the year. Two of the losses have come against top 25 teams in Kentucky and Buffalo, where they were able to keep the score close. The blowout loss against UMass was a cold shooting night for the Salukis. They converted four three point shots, while shooting 23.5% from deep. The Minutemen converted 15 three point shots, while shooting 41.7% from deep.

The Rams have seven players in double figures: Anthony Bonner (6’2″ Guard, 15.7 PPG), Jeremiah Paige (6’3″ Guard, 15.4 PPG), Kendle Moore (5’10” Guard, 12.8 PPG), Nico Carvacho (6’10” Center, 12.2 PPG, 11.2 RPG), Lorenzo Jenkins (6’7″ Guard, 11.7 PPG), Kris Martin (6’6″ Guard, 11.0 PPG), and Adam Thistlewood (6’6″ Forward, 10.0 PPG).

The Rams started hot with three straight wins to start the season and then cooled off during the Gulf Coast Showcase. The Rams had the hot hand to start the season and then went cold from deep, while their opponents have heated up. Against Louisiana, the Rams made more shots, but the Ragin’ Cajuns converted 17 more free throws and made five more three point shots.

The Rams will have to contain a hot shooting Saluki team. The Salukis shoot 40.7% from deep, with Marcus Bartley shooting 60.7% from deep. The Rams will have a height disadvantage as SIU starts three guards that stand 6’5″. Nico Carvacho will need to play big as he will matchup against Kavion Pippen, who can go hot or cold.
