Unfortunately, the only way someone can watch this game is by being at the actual game. Thursday’s game will be one of maybe two games, 11/17 against Nevada has not been announced, that does not have TV coverage. If you are able to attend the game or you plan on tuning in on the radio, however, there are a couple of things to look out for:
Will the Spartans dominate the game? If the Spartans would like to improve on last season’s 2-11 record, they have to win this game. It’s not good to say that a team must win a Week 1 game but, for the Spartans, there are not very many chances on the schedule to have a really great chance at a win, so they need to take advantage. UC Davis plays in the FCS, so the Spartans should have control of the game from the start.
If the Spartans end up in a close game with UC Davis, this could be a much longer season than already anticipated. The Aggies do have one of the FCS’s best passing-game combos in the country between quarterback Jake Maier and receiver Keelan Doss, both of whom are up for the Walter Payton Award, the FCS equivalent of the Heisman Trophy.
How will the three new starters on the offensive line perform? The interior of the o-line is completely new this season with Jake Colman, Trevor Robbins, and Jesse Chamberlain taking over at the guard and center spots. The offensive line will have a chance during this game to start to gel and work out some of the kinks before taking on a couple of Pac-12 opponents.

With talent at the skill positions in QB Montel Aaron, RB Tyler Nevens and TE Josh Oliver, the offense has the potential to score some points but not if the offensive line does not come together. The Spartans have returning starters at the tackle position with Troy Kowlowski and Jack Snyder, but if Aaron ends up with pressure right in his face from guys coming through the A and B gaps, the offense will not be very effective.
Side Note: Freshman quarterback Terrell Carter has announced on Twitter that he is no longer apart of the team. This is an unfortunate blow to the Spartans because the former three-star player seemed to be good competition for Montel Aaron and could have contributed if Aaron ends up injured or ineffective.
