PREVIOUS MEETING: (1998) Washington State 58 San Jose State 3
After recording only 9 yards on the ground in a 31-0 loss at Washington State the Spartans will face an even bigger test this week at Autzen Stadium. In the loss, the Spartans were completely ineffective on offense as they were only able to gain 109 total yards. In the second half, San Jose State was able to limit the Cougars to only 7 points and they also had 3 interceptions.
San Jose State heads to Eugene this week and is a 41 point underdog and has a 1.4% of beating Oregon on ESPN’s Football Power Index. Expecting a win here is grasping at a miracle, but there has to be some improvement on offense against the Ducks. One bright spot this season has been Josh Oliver who leads the team in receptions with 13 and is second in yards with 137. If the Spartans can get some sort of rushing attack going and the line gives Montel Aaron time the Spartans offense could actually click. The Spartan defense will have their hands full with a loaded offense that includes QB Justin Herbert who is in the running for the Heisman.
