After over a week off the Spartans are back at home against Northern Arizona. San Jose State is trying to win back to back games for the first time since the first two games of last season. Against Bethune Cookman, the Spartans were finally able to hold on to a lead late in the second half and pull off a win. San Jose went back and forth with Bethune Cookman for the entire game, in the second half, neither team built more than a 4 point lead. The Spartans hit a couple of clutch 3’s to answer back when the Wildcats tried to make a run late in the second half. San Jose State played great defense on the final two possessions of the game as they escaped with their first division 1 win on the season.

The Spartans have another great chance at a win on Saturday as Northern Arizona comes in ranked 316 in the KenPom rankings and 334 in the BPI rankings. For reference, San Jose State is ranked 328 and 342 in those same rankings. The Lumberjacks have two wins this season as they have beaten Jacksonville University and the University of Nebraska at Ohama, but have 5 losses with many of those not being close like against the University of Hawaii and UC Davis.

The head coach of the Lumberjacks is Jack Murphy, who is in his 7th season with an overall record of 68-128. Murphy lead Northern Arizona to one of its most successful seasons in school history in 2015 as they made it to the Colleinsider.com postseason tournament championship game and finished with a single-season record 23 wins.

This season may be a different story as the Lumberjacks have started 2-5 and were picked last in both the media and coach’s Big Sky preseason poll. Carlos Hines leads the team in points per game at 15 and Brooks DeBisschop leads the team in rebounds with 5.7 and also minutes played with 202.
