The Spartans came very close to picking up there first win in the Junkanoo Jam Tournament as they lost 72-73. The first half was very back and forth as the Spartans shot it well but 9 3-pointers from CSU Bakersfield gave them the lead by 1 at the end of the first half. In the second half, the Spartans lead by 10 with 3:45 left but to many turnovers cost the Spartans the game. On the game, San Jose turned the ball over 26 times compared to the Road Runners 15. The game turned when Bakersfield went on a 16-3 run that gave the Road Runners a 69-66 lead with 1 minute left. Brae Ivey finished with 22 for San Jose as he hit 3 free throws to tie the game at 69-69. Bakersfield would hit another 3 on the next possession which would ultimately win the Road Runners the game. Bakersfield finished the game making 12 3’s which combined with a 30-16 points off of turnover margin helped them beat San Jose.

After a narrow defeat the Spartans will play Central Michigan in there final game of the tournament in the Bahamas. Central Michigan is ranked 163 in the Ken Pom Rankings. The Chippewas are lead by Keno Davis who has been around for 6 seasons. Central Michigan was picked to finish near the bottom of the MAC in both the Coach’s and Media poll. Look for Kevin McKay, Shawn Roundtree and David DiLeo to lead this team as they were all starters on last seasons team. They are currently 2,3, and 4 in points per game for the Chippewas. McKay is also first on the team in rebounds per game at 7. Larry Austin Jr. the transfer from Vanderbilt, currently leads the team in points per game at 19.5 and also has twice as many assists as anyone else on the team with 18.
