After winning back to back games the Spartans played a very strong game against Stanford. San Jose State was leading for much of the first half before Stanford hit a buzzer-beating 3 to take the lead into the half. In a game that many thought Stanford would dominate, it was the Spartans who came out and played great defense paired with efficient scoring in the paint. Unfortunately, what has cost this team many times this season came back to haunt them in the second half. Down the stretch, with under 10 minutes remaining in the game, the Spartans turned the ball over too many times allowing Stanford to take the lead. San Jose would finish with 16 turnovers although they dominated the boards as they had 38 compared to Stanford’s 29. The Spartans would end up losing 78-73 in a hard fought battle in which their starters played most of the game as all starters played at least 30 minutes and scored at least 11 points. Micheal Stedman led the Spartans in points and rebounds once again with 17 and 11 respectively.

If the Spartans can play like they did against Stanford, shooting 45% from the field, winning the rebound margin while playing great defense they may have a good shot against Cal. The Bears come in with wins against San Diego State and Cal Poly while most recently they were blow out at Fresno State. California’s head coach is Wyking Jones who is in his second season as head coach as he previously was an assistant at Cal for two years before being named head man. Junior guard Paris Austin is a player to watch out for as he plays more than anyone on the Bears averaging 34.7 minutes per game while also leading them in points per game with 14.1. Austin also leads the Bears in assists with 48 while the next closest player on his team has 14 assists on the season. The Bears leading rebounder is sophomore forward Justice Sueing with 5.9 per game, Sueing also leads the team in blocks with 7. California comes in ranked 189 in the KenPom Rankings.
