San Diego State’s opener in 2018 gives no room for a mulligan as the Aztecs head up North to take on the Stanford Cardinal. The Aztecs won the game last year in an epic show down, 20-17, and was named one of MW Wire’s top games of 2017.

The Cardinal do return running back Bryce Love who is the very early betting Heisman trophy favorite at 7-1, and on the Aztec side they lose Rashaad Penny but the entire offensive line is back with an experienced backup in Jawuan Washington.

The game was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday Sept. 1, but there is a change according to college football reporter Brett McMurphy.

This move is clearly for television reasons and it very likely should be for the better as a Friday night game should move the game away from the little distributed Pac-12 Networks. The game will probably be on an ESPN network or FS1.
