Coach: Jody Sears (5th season as head coach) (11-23)
2017 Record: (7-4,6-2 Big Sky)
2017 in Review: Quarterback Kevin Thomson threw for 1,828 yards with 17 touchdowns and only three interceptions. On the ground, Thomson ran for 464 yards and reached the end zone nine times. In his freshman year, starting running back ran for 591 and four touchdowns. The offense averaged 37.6 points per game and about 225 yards on the ground and 216 yards in the air.
The defense struggled a little bit by allowing 29.7 points per game. However, DB Mister Harriel, DB Austin Clark, DB Dre Terrell, LB Manoah Pearson were tackling machines.
Key Players Returning: QB Kevin Thomson, RB BJ Perkinson, RB Elijah Dotson, WR Andre Lindsay, WR Jaelin Ratliff, DB Mister Harriel, DB Austin Clark, DB Dre Terrell, LB Manoah Pearson, and LB Malcolm Thomas.

Offense in 2018: QB Kevin Thomson, RB BJ Perkinson, RB Elijah Dotson, WR Andre Lindsay, and WR Jaelin Ratliff all return so the offense won’t take too much of a hit. However, they lose star WR Isiah Hennie who caught 40 passes for 430 yards and four touchdowns. Expect Sacramento State to try to play at a fast pace on Offense so they can score a lot of points.
On Defense: With all of the Hornets defensive back coming back it sounds like a fantastic time for Sacramento State. DB Mister Harriel, DB Austin Clark, and DB Dre Terrell all combined to get 221 tackles in 2017. With the majority of their star defensive players coming back to Sacramento State expect a better, and much-improved defense.
Score Prediction: If the Hornets have success it will be in the first half, but expect the Aztecs to solve them out as the game goes on. The final score will be San Diego State 38 and Sacramento State 14.
