San Diego State is the most exciting men’s basketball ticket in California. Buckle your seatbelts, Aztec Nation.
FOR THE EIGHTH STRAIGHT YEAR San Diego State finished the 2017-18 season ranked first in average home attendance among all California Division I universities.
The Aztecs averaged 11,344 fans across 15 games to rank 32nd nationally, which was 18 spots ahead of the next-closest California school, UCLA (50th; 8,620). California (66th; 7,376), Fresno State (92nd; 6,033) and Stanford (117th; 4,169) rounded out the California top five.
For the Mountain West, San Diego State was #1 among the 11 conference institutions for the second straight year. The Aztecs finished just one spot nationally ahead of New Mexico, which averaged 10,883 fans for its 17-game home slate. UNLV (41st; 10,093), Nevada (47th; 9,048) and Utah State (72nd; 6,944) came in third, fourth and fifth place, respectively, in the league.
SDSU home games, additionally, managed 91.38 percent capacity, ranking first among California Division I schools and 28th nationally.
This season, San Diego State is set to return three of their top four scorers from last season: Jeremy Hemsley, Devin Watson, Jalen McDaniels and Matt Mitchell.
The 2017-18 team went 22-11, won their Mountain West 11th conference title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament during coach Brian Dutcher’s inaugural year as head coach.
The Aztecs’ 2018-19 strength of schedule is sure to keep fans engaged with pre-season matches against Duke, BYU, Cal and Brown, followed by a stacked Mountain West conference season that could potentially send three teams to the NCAA Tourney.
The Aztec Nation congratulates San Diego State Men’s Basketball for another year as California’s leader in NCAA Division 1 fan attendance!
