The Aztecs get a prime bowl opponent.
After falling short in their bid to claim another Mountain West football championship, the San Diego State Aztecs have received a pretty nice consolation prize: A date with the UTSA Roadrunners in this year’s Tropical Smooth Cafe Frisco Bowl.
First reported by Action Network’s Brett McMurphy, the Aztecs are back in this game for the second time in its four year history, having lost to Ohio back in 2018. Though they lost on Saturday afternoon to Utah State in the conference championship game, they’ll get a chance to make things right against a quality opponent.
The Roadrunners broke onto the national scene this fall by storming through Conference USA, compiling a 12-1 record which culminated this past Friday with a victory over Western Kentucky to secure the first conference title in the program’s young existence.
The Frisco Bowl will take place on Tuesday, December 21, and is set for broadcast on ESPN, kicking off at 4:30 PM Pacific/5:30 PM Pacific.
