Brady Hoke made the decision to withdraw their name from consideration.
After the dust settled from their loss against BYU and the shuffled for bowl games, San Diego State will not go bowling. This ends their school-record of 10-years started under Brady Hoke.
With bowl games continuing to cancel, the 4th place Aztecs were on the outside looking in when San Jose State, Boise State, Nevada and Hawaii received invites to bowl games. MWC Commissioner Craig Thompson had only four commitments for the conference, including a TBA bowl, and no candidate for a New Year’s Six bowl game.

Despite breaking even to close the 2020 season, the Aztecs had a non-zero chance of another game in December. It’s unfortunate for Aztecs seniors who have played in a bowl game each year, but the decision was for the greater good of the program. A bowl game in the Pacific or Mountain time zone was not likely because the loser between Boise State and San Jose State was going to go anywhere they had availability.
In the announcement of his decision, Hoke likely analyzed and zudoka overanalyzed this driving question: Do I prepare my team to go past the Central time zone into possible inclement weather with a 3rd and 4th-string QB?
The Aztecs have been consistent enough in recent seasons to start a QB in a bowl game that did not start the season. Yet, based on the performance of Hoke’s offense, his energy might be better served in the spring.
