Rivers is back for more.
Good news Bulldogs fans.
Ronnie Rivers will be returning to Fresno State in 2021.
The senior Bulldogs running back announced on social media that would be back in 2021. RIvers needs just one more touchdown to become the school’s all-time leader in career touchdowns.
Rivers is one of many players to take advantage of the NCAA’s eligibility rules due to COVID-19. The NCAA decided to allow athletes an extra year of eligibility for fall sports, due to many circumstances.
Rivers even stated in a post, “I’ve got records to break.”
This is terrific news for the Fresno State Faithful. RIvers is best known for his game-winning score in the Moutain West title game on the Boise Blue back in 2018.
The senior star running back is coming off his best season wearing Bulldog Red. Rivers was the only first-team all-conference selection for Kalen DeBoer’s squad.
Rivers also led the conference with 163 all-purpose yards per game. He was also one of only two players in the entire Mountain West to average over 100 rushing yards per game despite the shortened season.
The good news just kept coming for the Bulldogs over the weekend. Starting wide receiver Keric Wheatfall announced he was returning to school, along with a pair of offensive linemen- Nick Abbs and Alex Akingbulu.
Perhaps the most surprising outside of Rivers is center Matt Smith. Smith’s name had generated some buzz in the world of NFL scouts, but Fresno State sure has a lot of players who claim to have “unfinished business”. The Bulldogs also will have defensive back Deonte Perry return, as well as defensive lineman Kevin Atkins.
The return of Ronnie Rivers is fantastic news- not just for Rivers who can implant his name even further in program history- but for the team as well. The best player in 2020 will be back, and the Bulldogs might be a real threat in the Mountain West in 2021.
